let’s say you were offered a position at work. it’s a great position, but you want to politely turn down the offer. 

…maybe you’d rather not take on new responsibilities at the moment.  

…or you dislike the people you would be working with.

…or you just don’t think you’d be a good fit for it.

직장에서 좋은 포지션을 offer 받았지만, 이유가 뭐가 되었든, 정중히 거절하고 싶다면…

뭐라 해야 할까요?

위에서 말한 데로

그냥 잘 맞지 않을 것 같다라고 말할 수도 있고, 아니면…

fit the bill, fill the bill 도 비슷한 의미로 사용됩니다.

fit the bill 또는 fill the bill

어떠한 조건, 자격, 자리 등에 알맞다. 요구되는 것이 만족된다.   

‘FIT’ 얘기가 나온 김에 하나 더…

(보통 좋지 않은 말/비난/비판 같은 것이) 본인에게 해당한다면…

…책임이 있음을 인정해라

…본인 탓임을 인정해라

…맞는 말이라고 인정해라

좀 애매하게 나가고 있네요, 이 의미들이… 차라리 예를 들어 보는게 더 쉬울 것 같습니다.

A: Just because I missed most of my classes this week, my teacher thinks I’m not interested in graduating anymore.

A: 내가 이번 주 수업에 거의 다 빠지니까 선생님은 대가 더이상 졸업에 관심이 없는 줄 알아.

B: Well, if the shoe fits, wear it.

...

A: Everyone thinks I’m cheating on john when I don’t pick up my phone for a while.

A: 내가 한참 전화를 안 받으면 모두들 내가 쟌 뒤에서 바람피고 있는 줄 알아.

B: Well, if the shoe fits, wear it.

간단히 말하자면, “그냥 인정해”라는 말입니다.

...의미에 전혀 관계 없는 이미지로 마칩니다. ^ ^
