[ Psalms 63 ] - hymn 298

My whole being longs for you.
[ PSALM 63:1 ]


“Bobbie the Wonder Dog” was a collie mix separated from his family while they were on a summer vacation together more than 2,200 miles from home. The family searched everywhere for their beloved pet but returned heartbroken without him.
Six months later, toward the end of winter, a scraggly but determined Bobbie showed up at their door in Silverton, Oregon. Bobbie somehow made the long and dangerous trek, crossing rivers, desert, and snow-covered mountains to find his way home to those he loved.
Bobbie’s quest inspired books, movies, and a mural in his hometown. His devotion strikes a chord within, perhaps because God has placed an even deeper longing in our hearts. Ancient theologian Augustine described it this way: “You have made us for yourself, and our hearts are restless until they rest in you.” This same longing was desperately yet eloquently expressed by David in a prayer as he hid from his pursuers in Judah’s wilderness: “You, God, are my God, earnestly I seek you I thirst for you, my whole being longs for you, in a dry and parched land where there is no water” (PSALM 63:1).
David praised God because His “love is better than life” (V. 3). Nothing compares with knowing Him! Through Jesus, God has sought us out and made the way for us to come home to His perfect love—regardless of how distant we once were. As we turn to Him, we find our heart’s true home. 6개월이 지나 겨울이 끝나갈 무렵, 오리건주 실버톤의 집 문 앞에 바비가 덥수룩하지만 단호한 모습으로 나타났습니다. 바비는 강과 사막과 눈 덮인 산들을 넘어 길고도 험한 여정을 마치고 사랑하는 가족에게 돌아왔습니다.
바비의 이야기는 책과 영화로 만들어지고 마을의 벽화에도 그려졌습니다. 아마도 하나님께서 우리 속에 이보다 더 깊은 어떤 사모하는 마음을 심어 주셨기 때문인지, 바비의 헌신의 모습은 우리의 심금을 울립니다. 고대 신학자 어거스틴은 그것을 이렇게 표현했습니다. “주님은 당신을 위해 우리를 만드셨습니다. 우리 마음은 당신 안에서 안식할 때까지 쉼을 얻지 못합니다.” 이와 같이 갈망하는 마음은 다윗이 유다 광야에서 추격자들을 피해 숨어 절망 가운데 드린 간절한 기도에도 나타납니다. “하나님이여 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 간절히 주를 찾되 물이 없어 마르고 황폐한 땅에서 내 영혼이 주를 갈망하며 내 육체가 주를 앙모하나이다”(시편 63:1).
다윗은 주님의 “인자하심이 생명보다 나으므로”(3절) 하나님을 찬양 했습니다. 하나님을 아는 것과 비길 것은 없습니다! 하나님은 예수님을 통해 우리를 찾으시고, 우리가 전에 얼마나 멀리 있었는지 상관없이 주님의 완벽한 사랑이 있는 집으로 돌아올 수 있는 길을 열어주셨습니다. 하나님께 돌아오면 거기에 우리 마음의 참된 집이 있습니다.

Jesus, thank You for making the way for me to come to You through Your life, death on the cross, and resurrection.


1. {A Psalm of David, when he was in the wilderness of Judah.} O God, Thou art my God I shall seek Thee earnestly My soul thirsts for Thee, my flesh yearns for Thee, In a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2. Thus I have beheld Thee in the sanctuary, To see Thy power and Thy glory.
3. Because Thy lovingkindness is better than life, My lips will praise Thee.
4. So I will bless Thee as long as I live I will lift up my hands in Thy name.
5. My soul is satisfied as with marrow and fatness, And my mouth offers praises with joyful lips.
6. When I remember Thee on my bed, I meditate on Thee in the night watches,
7. For Thou hast been my help, And in the shadow of Thy wings I sing for joy.

언젠가 예수님을 만날 때 당신이 가장 기대하는 것은 무엇입니까? 오늘 어떤 방법으로 주님을 찾으시렵니까?

예수님, 주님의 삶과 십자가에서의 죽음, 부활을 통해 하나님께 갈 수 있는 길을 열어주셔서 감사합니다.


1. 하나님이여 주는 나의 하나님이시라 내가 간절히 주를 찾되 물이 없어 마르고 황폐한 땅에서 내 영혼이 주를 갈망하며 내 육체가 주를 앙모하나이다
2. 내가 주의 권능과 영광을 보기 위하여 이와 같이 성소에서 주를 바라보았나이다
3. 주의 인자하심이 생명보다 나으므로 내 입술이 주를 찬양할 것이라
4. 이러므로 나의 평생에 주를 송축하며 주의 이름으로 말미암아 나의 손을 들리이다
5. 골수와 기름진 것을 먹음과 같이 나의 영혼이 만족할 것이라 나의 입이 기쁜 입술로 주를 찬송하되
6. 내가 나의 침상에서 주를 기억하며 새벽에 주의 말씀을 작은 소리로 읊조릴 때에 하오리니
