  2009 Kris Pinot Grigio

Pinot grigio is a wine made from the Pinot Gris grape in Italy. The white grape is grown in Italy's northern most wine region and its wine characteristics very greatly and are dependent mainly on the wine making style used on them.

This is a really nice and inexpensive Italian Pinot Grigio much better than I was expecting for only $9.89 at my Costco.  It reminds me a lot of the Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio that's always a crowd favorite, but is nearly double the price (even at Costco I need to buy a bottle to review).

This Kris has tons of great honey, lemon and pineapple flavor.  It has a nice pale yellow color, good body to hold the flavor and a finish that leaves hints of lemon and lime on the palate.

Overall, a surprisingly good find for under $10.  A fun one to enjoy with friends outdoors as the weather gets nice.  And a good wine to grill some spicy chicken with, which is what we did tonight.  A clear

2009 Zaccagnini Pinot Grigio

This wine shows tropical fruit, cut grass and minerals on the nose. On the palate, I found buttery lemon curd followed by granny smith apple with a medium body and a fresh citrus finish. The vibrant acidity of this wine carries its plush body well and makes it a great compliment to salads and seafood.

2010 Seaglass Riesling Monterey County

Tasting Notes
The aromatic nose of SeaGlass Riesling shows ripe apricot, sweet peaches, tropical fruit with floral undertones. Concentrated, rich flavors of perfumed white flowers are supported by juicy apricots, peaches and melon with a hint of honeysuckle. A balanced acidity leads to a lingering finish in an off-dry style. SeaGlass Riesling pairs well with spicy Asian dishes, smoked salmon, lobster salad and blue cheese. - Winery

Germany : Mosel-Saar-Ruwer

Moselland ArsVitis shows pictures of the painter and wine grower Heinz Ames. He uses Riesling instead of water to paint his pictures of regional historic sights. Mosel wine region The most famous of Germany¡¯s 13 Qualitätswein regions, Mosel is also the third largest in terms of production. It follows the path of the Mosel river from its confluence with the Rhine river near Koblenz, upstream and south-west to Germany's border with Luxembourg and France. This region also includes the Saar and Ruwer tributaries, and was formerly known as Mosel-Saar-Ruwer until August 2007, when the name was officially shortened to Mosel.

The Romans planted the first vineyards along the Mosel river and the city of Trier around the second century. Today, this region is known for its steep slopes overlooking the rivers, on which the vineyards are planted. Indeed, the steepest vineyard site in the world is located in the town of Bremm, with an incline of 65 degrees.

The Mosel has a very cool, northern continental climate, and such slopes are very effective in optimizing the vines¡¯ exposure to sun, facilitating the ripening of the grapes. The best sites also take advantage of the solar radiation reflecting off the rivers¡¯ surface and onto the vines, and the dark slate soil¡¯s ability to absorb heat during the day and radiate it back to the vines at night. In summer the weather is warm, but certainly not hot, with an average July temperature of around 65F (18C).

Riesling is an intense and aromatic white wine variety that is the leading grape of its native Germany. Exceptionally sensitive to its terroir, it is highly prized for conveying a sense of place in its wines. Due to its naturally high acidity, full range of citrus flavors and ability to age gracefully for decades, Riesling is regarded as one of the finest white wines in the world.
