• "if you want my two cents,..."

• "let me put my two cents' worth in..."

two cents = 자신의 의견을 말합니다.  

"내 생각을 얘기해보자면,..."

"내 생각도 들어봐...." 

이런 뜻이 되는거죠.  

반대로

• "a penny for your thoughts?"

이라는 말은 "내 의견"을 얘기하는게 아니라 "네 생각"을 물어볼때, 특히 상대방이 다른 일에 신경을 쓰고 있는 경우, 사용됩니다.

예를 들자면 3명의 대화 도중...

Bryan: "I think we need to leave right now.  There isn't a moment to waste."

브라이언: "지금 당장 떠나야 할것같아.  낭비할 시간이 일초도 없어."

Bryan: "Tom! Nancy! Hurry, out the door, now! We might make it on time."

브라이언: "톰! 낸시! 빨리, 지금 가자, 어서! 시간에 맞춰 도착할수도 있어."

Tom: "If you want my two pennys' worth, I think traffic is so bad right now that it'd be the same thing if we were to leave in 30 minutes, at half past noon."

톰: "내 생각을 듣고싶다면, 지금 차가 너무 막혀서 30분 후 - 그러니까 12 시 반에 출발해도 똑같을 것 같아."

Bryan: "No, we'll miss the entire graduation ceremony then.  Chris will be crushed."

브라이언: "안돼, 그럼 졸업식이 다 끝나버리게돼잖아. 크리스가 마음아파할꺼야." 

Tom: "Nancy, what do you think?"

톰: "낸시, 네 생각은 어때?"

Nancy: ...

낸시: ...

Bryan: "Nancy?  Nancy?  Hello?  Earth to Nancy?!"

브라이언: "낸시?  낸시?  어이?  정친차려봐?!"

Tom: "NANCY!"

브라이언: "낸시!"

Nancy: (startled) Yes?

낸시: (놀라며) 응?

Tom: "We're trying to decide when to leave.  A penny for your thought?"

톰: "언제 출발할까 얘기중이야.  네 생각은 어때?"
