In the early 1980s, a prominent astronomer who didn’t believe in God wrote, “A common sense interpretation of the facts suggests that a super-intellect has monkeyed with physics, as well as with chemistry and biology.” To this scientist’s eye, the evidence showed that something had designed everything we observe in the cosmos. He added, “There are no blind forces worth speaking about in nature.” In other words, everything we see looks as if it was planned by Someone. And yet, the astronomer remained an atheist.
Three thousand years ago, another intelligent man looked at the skies and drew a different conclusion. “When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?” wondered David (PSALM 8:3).
Yet God cares for us deeply. The universe tells the story of its Intelligent Designer, the “Super Intellect” who made our minds and put us here to ponder His work. Through Jesus and His creation, God can be known. Paul wrote, “[Christ] existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, for through him God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth” (COLOSSIANS 1:15 NLT).

1980년대 초 하나님을 믿지 않았던 한 저명한 천문학자가 이런 글을 썼습니다. “밝혀진 사실들을 상식적으로 해석해 보면 어떤 초지능을 지닌 존재의 손길이 화학과 생물학뿐 아니라 물리학까지 미쳤다는 것을 시사해 준다.” 이 과학자의 눈에는 그 증거들이 ‘무언가’가 우주에서 우리가 관찰하는 모든 것을 설계한 것으로 비춰졌습니다. 그는 “이 자연에는 언급할만한 그런 보이지 않는 힘은 존재하지 않는다.”라고 덧붙여 말했습니다. 다시 말해 우리가 보는 모든 것은 ‘누군가’에 의해 계획된 것처럼 보이는 것입니다. 하지만 그 천문학자는 여전히 무신론자로 남았습니다.
3천 년 전 지성을 지닌 한 다른 사람이 하늘을 보며 다른 결론을 내렸습니다. 다윗은 이렇게 놀라움을 표했습니다. “주의 손가락으로 만드신 주의 하늘과 주께서 베풀어 두신 달과 별들을 내가 보오니 사람이 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 생각하시며 인자가 무엇이기에 주께서 그를 돌보시나이까”(시편 8:3-4).
그러나 하나님은 우리를 깊이 돌보십니다. 우주는 우리의 마음을 지으시고 이곳에 두셔서 그분의 작품을 깊이 생각하게 하신 우주의 ‘지적 설계자’요 ‘지적 초월자’의 이야기를 들려줍니다. 예수님과 그의 창조물을 보면 하나님을 알 수 있습니다. 바울은 이렇게 기록했습니다. “[그리스도는] 만물이 창조되기 전부터 계셨고 만물보다 뛰어나시니 하나님이 그를 통하여 하늘과 땅에 있는 만물을 창조하셨느니라”(골로새서 1:15-16).
우주는 실제로 “만들어졌습니다”. ‘지적 설계자’가 누구인지 그것을 알고자 하는 사람들은 누구나 다 알 수 있습니다. |

15. And He is the image of the invisible God, the first-born of all creation.
16. For by Him all things were created, [both] in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities-- all things have been created by Him and for Him.
17. And He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.
18. He is also head of the body, the church and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything.
19. For it was the [Father's] good pleasure for all the fulness to dwell in Him,
20. and through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross through Him, [I say], whether things on earth or things in heaven. |

15. 그는 보이지 아니하는 하나님의 형상이시요 모든 피조물보다 먼저 나신 이시니
16. 만물이 그에게서 창조되되 하늘과 땅에서 보이는 것들과 보이지 않는 것들과 혹은 왕권들이나 주권들이나 통치자들이나 권세들이나 만물이 다 그로 말미암고 그를 위하여 창조되었고
17. 또한 그가 만물보다 먼저 계시고 만물이 그 안에 함께 섰느니라
18. 그는 몸인 교회의 머리시라 그가 근본이시요 죽은 자들 가운데서 먼저 나신 이시니 이는 친히 만물의 으뜸이 되려 하심이요
19. 아버지께서는 모든 충만으로 예수 안에 거하게 하시고
20. 그의 십자가의 피로 화평을 이루사 만물 곧 땅에 있는 것들이나 하늘에 있는 것들이 그로 말미암아 자기와 화목하게 되기를 기뻐하심이라 |
