[ PSALM 40:4 ]
A woman rescued Rudy from the animal shelter days before he was to be euthanized, and the dog became her companion. For ten years, Rudy slept calmly beside Linda’s bed, but then he abruptly began to jump next to her and lick her face. Linda scolded him, but every night, Rudy repeated the behavior. “Soon he was jumping on my lap to lick my face every time I sat down,” Linda said.
As she was planning to take Rudy to obedience school, she began to consider how insistent Rudy was and how he always licked her in the same spot on her jaw. Sheepishly, Linda went to a doctor who found a microscopic tumor (bone cancer). The doctor told Linda that if she’d waited longer, it probably would’ve killed her. Linda had trusted Rudy’s instincts, and she was happy she did.
The Scriptures tell us repeatedly that trusting God leads to life and joy. “Blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord,” the psalmist says (40:4). Some translations make the point even starker: “Happy are those who make the Lord their trust” (V. 4 NRSV). Happy in the psalms communicates abundance—an erupting, effervescent joy. When we trust God, the ultimate result is deep, genuine happiness. This trust may not come easily, and the results may not be everything we envision. But if we trust God, we’ll be so happy we did. 한 여인이 루디가 안락사 되기 며칠 전 그를 동물보호소에서 구해내어 계속 함께 지냈습니다. 10년 동안 루디는 린다의 침대 옆에서 조용히 잠을 잤지만, 어느 날부터 갑자기 린다의 옆으로 올라와 그녀의 얼굴을 핥기 시작했습니다. 린다는 못하게 했지만, 루디는 매일 밤 그 행동을 반복했습니다. “얼마 지나지 않아 루디는 제가 앉을 때마다 제 무릎으로 뛰어 올라와 제 얼굴을 핥으려 했어요.”라고 린다가 말했습니다.
린다는 루디를 개 훈련학교에 데려갈 생각을 하다가 문득 루디가 왜 집요하게 자신의 턱 한 부분을 계속 핥았는지 이상한 생각이 들었습니다. 반신반의하며 의사를 찾아간 린다는 자신의 뼈에 미세한 종양(골암)이 생겼다는 사실을 알게 되었습니다. 의사는 린다에게 더 지체했더라면 아마 죽었을지도 모른다고 얘기했습니다. 루디의 본능을 신뢰했던 린다는 그러기를 잘했다고 행복해 했습니다.
성경은 하나님을 신뢰하는 것이 생명과 기쁨으로 이끈다는 것을 반복해서 말하고 있습니다. 시편 기자는 “여호와를 의지하...는 자는 복이 있도다”(40:4) 라고 말합니다. 이 구절의 다른 번역은 그 요점을 더 분명하게 보여줍니다. “여호와를 그들의 의지로 삼는 자들은 행복하다”(4절). 시편에서 ‘행복하다’ 는 것은 샘솟는 열광적인 기쁨이 풍성하다는 것을 말합니다.
우리가 하나님을 신뢰할 때 그 궁극적인 결과는 깊고 진정한 행복입니다. 이 신뢰는 쉽게 오지 않을 수도 있고, 그 결과도 우리가 마음 속에 그리는 것과 똑같지 않을 수 있습니다. 하지만 우리가 하나님을 신뢰하면, 그렇게 한 것 때문에 우리는 아주 행복해질 것입니다. |

What makes it difficult for you to trust God?
How does it alter things if you begin to really believe that trusting Him leads you to happiness?
Dear God, I want the kind of happiness that only You can bring.
But it’s hard for me to trust. Will You help me?
1. Psalm 40 For the director of music. Of David. A psalm. I waited patiently for the LORD he turned to me and heard my cry.
2. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.
3. He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their trust in the LORD.
4. Blessed is the man who makes the LORD his trust, who does not look to the proud, to those who turn aside to false gods.
5. Many, O LORD my God, are the wonders you have done. The things you planned for us no one can recount to you were I to speak and tell of them, they would be too many to declare. |
| | 무엇이 하나님을 신뢰하기 어렵게 만듭니까?
하나님을 신뢰하면 행복해진다고 진정으로 믿어지기 시작한다면 당신의 상황이 어떻게 바뀌게 될까요?
사랑하는 하나님, 저는 하나님만이 주실 수 있는 행복을 원합니다.
하지만 하나님을 신뢰하기가 힘이 듭니다. 저를 도와주소서.
1. 내가 여호와를 기다리고 기다렸더니 귀를 기울이사 나의 부르짖음을 들으셨도다
2. 나를 기가 막힐 웅덩이와 수렁에서 끌어올리시고 내 발을 반석 위에 두사 내 걸음을 견고하게 하셨도다
3. 새 노래 곧 우리 하나님께 올릴 찬송을 내 입에 두셨으니 많은 사람이 보고 두려워하여 여호와를 의지하리로다
4. 여호와를 의지하고 교만한 자와 거짓에 치우치는 자를 돌아보지 아니하는 자는 복이 있도다
5. 여호와 나의 하나님이여 주께서 행하신 기적이 많고 우리를 향하신 주의 생각도 많아 누구도 주와 견줄 수가 없나이다 내가 널리 알려 말하고자 하나 너무 많아 그 수를 셀 수도 없나이다 |
