1701, the Church of England founded the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in order to send missionaries around the globe. The motto they chose was transiens adiuva nos—Latin for “Come over and help us!” This has been the call on gospel ambassadors since the first century, as followers of Jesus take the message of His love and forgiveness to a world in desperate need
of it.
The phrase “come over and help us” comes from the “Macedonian call” described in Acts 16. Paul and his team had arrived at Troas on the west coast of Asia Minor (modern-day Turkey, v. 8). There, “Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia stand- ing and begging him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us’ ” (V. 9). Having received the vision, Paul and his companions “got ready at once to leave for Macedonia” (V. 10). They understood the vital importance of the call.
Not everyone is called to cross the seas, but we can support those who do with our prayers and finances. And all of us can tell someone, whether across the room, the street, or the community, about the good news of Jesus. Let’s pray that our good God will enable us to cross over and give people the greatest help of all— the opportunity for forgiveness in Jesus’ name.

“이리로 와서 우리를 도우라”는 문구는 사도행전 16장에 묘사된 “마게도냐 사람의 요청”에 등장합니다. 바울 일행은 소아시아 서해안 (현재의 튀르키예, 8절)의 드로아에 도착했습니다. 그곳에서 “바울이 환상을 보았는데 어떤 마케도니아 사람이 서서 그에게 ‘마케도니아로 건너와 우리를 도와주십시오.’하고 간청하였습니다”(9절, 현대인의 성경). 그 환상을 보고 바울과 그의 동료들은 “곧 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘썼습니다”(10절). 그들은 그 부르심의 중요성을 잘 알고 있었던 것입니다.

Where is God calling you to share your faith? How might He empower you to do this today?
Loving Father, You sent Your Son for our rescue and forgiveness. Equip me to be an agent of Your great good news that forgiveness and freedom are available to whoever will receive Jesus by faith.
1. He came to Derbe and then to Lystra, where a disciple named Timothy lived, whose mother was a Jewess and a believer, but whose father was a Greek.
2. The brothers at Lystra and Iconium spoke well of him.
3. Paul wanted to take him along on the journey, so he circumcised him because of the Jews who lived in that area, for they all knew that his father was a Greek.
4. As they traveled from town to town, they delivered the decisions reached by the apostles and elders in Jerusalem for the people to obey.
5. So the churches were strengthened in the faith and grew daily in numbers.
6. Paul and his companions traveled throughout the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been kept by the Holy Spirit from preaching the word in the province of Asia.
7. When they came to the border of Mysia, they tried to enter Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus would not allow them to.
8. So they passed by Mysia and went down to Troas.
9. During the night Paul had a vision of a man of Macedonia standing and begging him, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."
10. After Paul had seen the vision, we got ready at once to leave for Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to preach the gospel to them. |

사랑의 하나님 아버지, 하나님은 우리를 구원하고 용서하시기 위해 당신의 아들 예수님을 보내주셨습니다. 믿음으로 예수님을 영접하는 모든 사람에게 용서와 자유가 주어진다는 주님의 위대한 복음을 전하는 사람이 될 수 있도록 저를 준비시켜 주소서.

2. 디모데는 루스드라와 이고니온에 있는 형제들에게 칭찬 받는 자니
3. 바울이 그를 데리고 떠나고자 할새 그 지역에 있는 유대인으로 말미암아 그를 데려다가 할례를 행하니 이는 그 사람들이 그의 아버지는 헬라인인 줄 다 앎이러라
4. 여러 성으로 다녀 갈 때에 예루살렘에 있는 사도와 장로들이 작정한 규례를 그들에게 주어 지키게 하니
5. 이에 여러 교회가 믿음이 더 굳건해지고 수가 날마다 늘어가니라
6. 성령이 아시아에서 말씀을 전하지 못하게 하시거늘 그들이 브루기아와 갈라디아 땅으로 다녀가
7. 무시아 앞에 이르러 비두니아로 가고자 애쓰되 예수의 영이 허락하지 아니하시는지라
8. 무시아를 지나 드로아로 내려갔는데
9. 밤에 환상이 바울에게 보이니 마게도냐 사람 하나가 서서 그에게 청하여 이르되 마게도냐로 건너와서 우리를 도우라 하거늘
10. 바울이 그 환상을 보았을 때 우리가 곧 마게도냐로 떠나기를 힘쓰니 이는 하나님이 저 사람들에게 복음을 전하라고 우리를 부르신 줄로 인정함이러라 |
